A DOJ Inspector General audit of the FBI's $229 million Innovation Center contract found the Bureau never prepared the contract-specific cost estimate the regulations require — and gave auditors four different figures over three years for what the estimate had been.
Why it matters: The audit found no fraud and no overpayment, and says the building does real work. What it could not establish is whether the price was defensible, because the document that would answer that was never created.
