UMG, Capitol Records and Capitol CMG sued DistroKid in Delaware federal court on September 15, 2026, naming about 1,000 recordings, seeking $150,000 per work, and accusing the distributor of running an 'AI-slop pipeline' while presenting itself as a distributor of human-made music.
Why it matters: DistroKid carries roughly 40% of all new music for more than 4 million artists. Whatever verification rule comes out of this case becomes the de facto condition of independent release.
